Injury bug: Since he was named the National League Most Valuable Player in 2007, Rollins has not played more than 155 games in a season (2009) and has averaged just 127 games. He played 88 games this season, batttling calf, foot and hamstring injuries. A career .274 hitter, Rollins has hit just .243 but remains a key component to the Phillies' postseason hopes.
The other Jimmy: Since his arrival in Philadelphia, Rollins has been active in the community. Among his many endeavors are playing host to a celebrity bowling tournament to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the Arthritis Foundation. Rollins, along with teammates Ryan Howard and Shane Victorino, have been active members in the Action Team/Volunteers of America. Administered by Volunteers of America and the Major League Baseball Players Trust, the Action Team was created to encourage young people throughout the United States to volunteer in their communities.
In the field: Rollins has been named to three All-Star teams in 2001, 2002 and 2005. He was the National League MVP in 2007. Rollins has won three consecutive Gold Gloves from 2007-09. Rollins also finished 10th in NL MVP voting, in 2005.
The postseason: In 33 postseason games, Rollins has hit just .226 with seven steals. In 12 National League Divisional Series games, Rollins has hit .265 with 11 RBI.
Rollins as mentor: He always has been a mentor to young players joining the Phillies. A perfect example is when Ryan Howard joined the team, Rollins opened his home to the rookie and the two of them lived together through the season.
Quotable: "Jimmy isn't the typical leadoff hitter, but we're not a typical offense. He is what makes us go. He's our engine, our sparkplug. As Jimmy goes, we go." - Pat Burrell, in 2007
