Pitching matchup: RHP Roy Oswalt (3-3, 2.70) vs. RHP John Garland (1-5, 4.33)
OSWALT vs. DODGERS: Oswalt has had a weird season. He has held an opponent under three runs in all but one start, but he has thrown more than 96 pitches only once. Only one of his starts has lasted more than six innings, and he has not struck out more than three batters in five straight starts. Some of that has been circumstantial - he was yanked after five innings for a pinch-hitter in his last start because the bases were loaded with the Phils trailing 2-1 - but Oswalt seems to be antsy to log some distance.
PHILLIES vs. GARLAND: The Phillies have hit Garland pretty hard over his career, scoring nine runs in 13 innings in two games last season and 11 in 11 in 2009. Garland has never defeated the Phillies in his career, entering tonight 0-5 in six starts.
FYI: Dee Gordon, the Dodgers' top prospect and the son of former Phillies reliever Tom "Flash" Gordon, made his major league debut as a pinch-runner last night. His father was in attendance.
