Ryne Sandberg is staying, Mickey Morandini is moving up a level, and two former Phillies are returning to the organization as minor-league coaches.

Sandberg, after learning last week that he did not get the managerial job with the World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals, will be back for a second season as manager of the Phillies' triple-A Lehigh Valley team. Sandberg's staff will remain intact, with Sal Rende returning as a coach and Rod Nichols as the pitching coach.

Morandini, after returning to the organization as the manager at single-A Williamsport last season, will move up to single-A Lakewood in 2012. He will be replaced at Williamsport by former Phillies infielder Andy Tracy, whom the team had targeted as a future coach or manager during his three seasons at Lehigh Valley. Tracy's pitching coach will be Aaron Fultz, a former big-league lefthander who spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons in Philadelphia.

Joe Jordan, the Phillies' first-year director of player development, announced the staff moves in a news release.

Dusty Wathan and Chris Truby also received minor-league managerial promotions. Wathan, after two years at single-A Clearwater, replaces Mark Parent as the manager at double-A Reading. Parent left to be the bench coach with the Chicago White Sox. Coach Frank Cacciatore returns for his fifth season at Reading, and Bob Milacki will be back for his third season as the pitching coach.

Truby was promoted from single-A Lakewood to the Phillies' advanced A-ball team in Clearwater.

John Mizerock returns for his second season as a coach for Clearwater, and pitching coach Dave Lundquist is back for his fourth season.

Greg Legg returns for his 31st season with the Phillies and his fifth straight as a coach at Lakewood. Les Lancaster replaces Steve Schrenk as the pitching coach at Lakewood. Lancaster was the pitching coach for the Gulf Coast League Phillies last season. Schrenk becomes the GCL pitching coach.

Roly deArmas will manage the GCL Phillies for the sixth consecutive year, and former Phillies infielder Kevin Jordan also returns to that coaching staff. Carlos Arroyo will be back for his 37th season on the player-development staff, continuing his role as rehabilitation pitching coach. Lino Connell joins the staff in an as-yet unspecified role.

Five of the six minor-league coordinators from last year are returning in the same roles: Mike Compton (field), Gorman Heimueller (pitching), Steve Henderson (hitting), Doug Mansolino (infield), and Ernie Whitt (catching).

They will be joined by former major leaguer Andy Abad, who will serve as the new outfield/baserunning coordinator. He replaces Donnie Sadler. Jorge Velandia, a coach at Williamsport last season, will take on the new role of assistant field coordinator.
