David Ortiz doesn't want his season - and possibly his Red Sox career - to end on the disabled list.

The Red Sox placed Ortiz back on the 15-day disabled list Monday after just one game back because of lingering problems with a strained right Achilles tendon, but the DH said he hopes to play again this season.

Speaking to reporters before the club's home game against Kansas City, Ortiz expressed his desire to return this season, and beyond.

The 36-year-old Ortiz said he'll have an injection in the next day or so and hopes to return in September. He will become a free agent at the end of the season.

Ortiz, who at times this season has expressed disappointment at not having a multiyear deal, said he'd like to come back in 2013.

Teixeira hurt

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira left Monday's 8-7 loss against Toronto with a left calf strain.

Teixeira said an MRI exam revealed a Grade 1 strain. "It could be seven days, it could be two weeks," he told ESPNNewYork.com.

Manager Joe Girardi said he didn't expect Teixeira to play in the rest of this series, and possibly not the next one either.

'Discussion' gets loud

After Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Phillies extended the Washington Nationals' losing streak to four games, manager Davey Johnson could be heard shouting at GM Mike Rizzo in a meeting lasting nearly 20 minutes.

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reported:

"The yelling appeared to be the release of frustration after a dispiriting loss, not the start of a rift. Although it was not clear what the argument centered on, Johnson could be heard shouting, 'You come down and manage the team.' "

Later, Johnson said, "I had a discussion with my boss."
