Hamels, Trout to be honored at 109th dinner

TWO OF THE biggest names in baseball, Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout, will be honored at the 109th Philadelphia Sports Writers Association Sports Awards dinner on Jan. 28 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Route 70 in Cherry Hill.

TWO OF THE biggest names in baseball, Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout, will be honored at the 109th Philadelphia Sports Writers Association Sports Awards dinner on Jan. 28 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Route 70 in Cherry Hill.

Hamels and his wife Heidi will receive the Humanitarian of the Year award for their various charitable endeavors that includes the Hamels Foundation, which is dedicated to providing assistance to inner-city schools throughout the country.

Trout, a native of Millville, N.J., and the 2012 American League Rookie of the Year, is the PSWA's Pro Athlete of the Year.

Flyers chairman Ed Snider will receive a lifetime achievement award for his humanitarian work, and University of Delaware basketball star Elena Delle Donne is the Amateur Athlete of the Year.

Other awards will be announced in the coming weeks.
