Former Yankees great Reggie Jackson is selling the jersey he wore when he hit three home runs against the Dodgers in Game 6 of the 1977 World Series, earning him the nickname "Mr. October."
Jackson told Bloomberg Radio earlier this week that he would use the proceeds to make significant donations to family members, as well as his Mr. October Foundation for Kids.
With New York up three games to two, Jackson homered on three consecutive pitches from three different pitchers in the 8-4 win at Yankee Stadium. He was the first player since Babe Ruth in 1928 to hit three home runs in a World Series game.
The pinstripes will be sold online by California-based SCP Auctions on April 10-27.
Vladimir's a Duck?
Once one of most feared hitters in the majors, Vladimir Guerrero (.318, 449 homers, 1,496 RBIs in 16 seasons) is coming out of retirement to play for the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League.
The 38-year-old Guerrero said in a statement that he is "very excited to have this opportunity the Long Island Ducks have given me as I try to make it back to the big leagues."
If it's any comfort, the Ducks are in the same independent league as the Camden Riversharks. The Ducks will be in Camden for a four-game series beginning May 20.
Davis in elite company
Orioles first baseman Chris Davis on Friday matched some of the greatest hitters of all time.
He was 2 for 4 with a grand slam and five RBIs in Baltimore's 9-5 win over Minnesota, giving him four blasts and 16 RBIs in four games. He joins Willie Mays, Mark McGwire, and Nelson Cruz as only the fourth player in major-league history to homer in his first four games of the season.
