After Oakland's Brandon Moss hit the two-out, walk-off home run that gave the Athletics a 10-8 win over the Los Angeles Angels in 19 innings on Monday night (actually early Tuesday morning), he didn't wait for his teammates to play the traditional postgame TV interview prank.

Seems the A's have a designated pie-thrower (it is in the American League, after all) in outfielder Josh Reddick, but he was too tired to fulfill the task.

Hey, you can't blame him. The game went 6 hours, 32 minutes and ended at 1:41 a.m. on the West Coast (for you non-insomniacs, that's 4:41 a.m. EDT).

It came the same night (morning?) the Mets and Marlins played a relatively brisk 15-inning epic, won by Miami, 4-3.

Shocking development. Washington ace Stephen Strasburg has looked anything but a phenom, losing four straight starts before getting a no-decision in the Nationals' 3-2 loss to Atlanta on Monday.

Umpire strikes back. When umpire Alan Porter delivered a new ball to Baltimore starter Zach Britton in the sixth inning of the Seattle Mariners' 6-2 win over the Orioles on Monday, he hit the brooding lefthander on his throwing shoulder.

"The umpire smoked me," Britton said. (No truth to the rumor Porter issued a warning to himself before letting the game go on.)
