The Phillies are off on Thursday. It's their second day off in the span of four days.
It's allowed them to rest set-up man Mike Adams, who was hobbled with back spasms on Sunday.
But Adams may need more than a couple of days to get his back right.
After the Phils stayed away from using Adams on Sunday and he got a full day of rest on Monday, Adams tried to play catch before Tuesday's game against Cleveland. It did not go well.
"Yesterday," Adams said, "I felt horrible."
Adams called it a small setback. He had an injection of anti-inflammatories on Tuesday in an effort to get rid of the pain.
Following Wednesday's 10-4 loss to the Indians, Adams said he'd give it another day. If it's still painful on Thursday, it's possible he could land on the disabled list.
Since Adams hasn't pitched since May 10, the move would be retroactive to then... meaning he could return as soon as May 26.
But Adams is hoping to avoid a DL trip.
"Tomorrow if I come in and don't feel like I'm progressing or so, I may ask to go to a MRI on Friday or tomorrow, just so I have a better idea on what's going on and what the timetable may be about the severity of what's going on," Adams said.
So is Thursday a big day in his effort to avoid the DL?
