Charlie Manuel's Milestone Wins

Charlie Manuel knows how to reach a milestone in style.

Last weekend, Manuel became the 65th manager in baseball history to reach 900 wins. And it was quite fitting that No. 900 came on a Jim Thome walk-off home run — what would be his last as a Phillie —  since win No. 100 had also. Throw in win No. 500 (Ryan Howard scoring on an error), and three of Manuel's milestone wins were walk-offs.

Wonder what he has in store for No. 1,000?

Indians 4, ORIOLES 1
   Kenny Lofton had a solo homer and an RBI single as Manuel won his major league managing debut. Five Cleveland pitchers combined to hold Baltimore to one run on six hits.

   Trailing by 4-3 in the bottom of the 11th, Jim Thome belted a two-run walk-off home run. Juan Gonzalez had hit a two-run homer earlier.

   Russell Branyan hit a sacrifice fly and Jim Thome scored on a wild pitch by Rick Bauer as the Indians plated two in the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Bartolo Colon allowed one run in eight innings.

   Jimmy Rollins had two runs, two hits and two RBI, and the Phillies scored all 10 runs in the top of the ninth inning. Vicente Padilla allowed just one unearned run and struck out seven in seven innings of a no-decision.

   Jimmy Rollins had four hits (including a leadoff homer and a triple), four runs and two RBI. Adam Eaton picked up the win despite allowing four runs in six innings. He struck out seven.

   Ryan Howard scored on an error by Giants second baseman Eugenio Velez with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Carlos Ruiz had a homer, and Pat Burrell knocked in a pair of runs. Brad Lidge picked up the win by retiring three batters on five pitches.

   Shane Victorino had four hits, and Raul Ibanez knocked in two runs. Four Phillies pitchers combined on 3.2 scoreless innings in relief of J.A. Happ.

   Shane Victorino delivered with a bases-loaded triple in a four-run second inning, and Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth had solo homers. Jamie Moyer allowed just three hits (two of them solo homers) in eight innings.
