The Phillies entered Citizens Bank Park with the typical pomp and circumstance, a red carpet greeting the players and coaches who descended steps at the centerfield wall. But there were two special tributes Friday for Dallas Green, who died last month.

The team unveiled a special patch that will be worn on the right sleeve of Phillies jerseys all season. It is an encircled "D" with the old Phillies "P" logo from Green's 1980 championship team in the center.

Green, after managing the Phillies to the title, became an influential and respected member of the front office for decades, until his death in March.

His widow, Sylvia, threw one of the ceremonial first pitches to open the baseball season in South Philadelphia.

"Sylvia has become such a part of the Phillies family," Phillies chairman David Montgomery said last month. "It takes a strong woman to deal with that guy, and she was the right person for that."
