Phillies 'high' on Red Sox prospect Manuel Margot

The Red Sox were one of the first teams considered to be players in the Cole Hamels sweepstakes earlier in the year. One hang-up was and has been the hypothetical return the Phillies would receive for their star, as Boston has considered the Phillies' asking price on Hamels to be too high, including names like centerfielder Mookie Betts, catcher Blake Swihart, and pitcher Henry Owens.

Hamels naturally caught a few eyes yesterday, spinning his first career no-hitter. The performance reinvigorated trade talk, and the Boston Herald's Scott Lauber was able to specify who in the Red Sox farm system that Phillies scouts have been zeroing in on:

20-year-old Margot, a righthanded centerfielder, is currently playing on Boston's double A affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League. His 2015 numbers include a slash line of .263/.315/.381, with a home run, two triples, and seven doubles in 29 games. This is after his promotion from high A Salem, where he hit .282/.321/.420 through 46 games. He has corrected a long streak of impatient at-bats over the course of the season and has been noted for longer rushing at the plate.
