Phillies ink Reid Brignac to minor league deal

The Phillies have brought infielder Reid Brignac along for the ride in 2014, signing the 27-year-old to a minor league deal Tuesday afternoon.

Formerly ranked the 17th best (2007) and 39th best (2008) prospect in all of baseball, Brignac spent 2008-12 in Tampa Bay, where he hit .227 and his OPS scrambled, but failed, to reach .600 (.586). He did manage to keep his WAR in the positives at 1.5, something he was unable to do this past season with brief stints in Colorado and New York.

He's played the majority of his games as a shortstop, but as Jayson Stark writes, Brignac will compete in Spring Training for what is likely - hopefully - a utility role.

He is currently dating a Playboy Playmate.
