Report: Phillies eyeing Vernon Wells, Scott Hairston for outfield help

While he has already made a lot of changes to the Phillies roster, it is clear that Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. is not done yet.

CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury is reporting that Amaro has some other trade options in the mix as he looks for an outfield batter and a right-handed hitter.

"General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. continues to look to add a hitter to his outfield mix for the coming season.

According to sources, Amaro is considering multiple possibilities  -- including free agent Scott Hairston and trade candidate Vernon Wells -- and it's possible that something could pop during the Holidays.

Amaro has had a busy, though not frenzied, offseason."

Finding players to fill the holes in the Phillies roster will be essential to their success next season.  In addition to going after Hairston and Wells, they are still in pursuit of Cody Ross but the asking price may be out of reach for the Phillies. One of the other trade options is Alfonso Soriano, but since he plays left field he may not be a good fit for what Amaro needs. The Phillies are also one of five teams looking at J.P Howell, another lefthander.

They recently signed Mike Adams to a two year, $12 million deal but have admitted that he is a risk due to his age and health.

Adams is not the only player that Amaro has added to his roster this winter. He has also traded to acquire Michael Young for third base, left hander John Lannan and Ben Revere as centerfielder.

Amaro also locked up Cole Hamels before he could go to another team as a free agent with a six-year deal for $144 million during last season.
