NBA | Kings' Artest faces charges in dispute

Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest faces four misdemeanor charges stemming from a dispute with his wife at home earlier this month.

Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest faces four misdemeanor charges stemming from a dispute with his wife at home earlier this month.

The charges were filed late Tuesday. Placer County, Calif., Deputy District Attorney Dan Quick said Artest will be arraigned today on charges of battery and corporal injury to a spouse, false imprisonment and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime. Each carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison.

Artest was arrested March 5 at his estate in Loomis, 25 miles northeast of Sacramento, and was released from custody after posting a $50,000 bond.

A Placer County sheriff's report said Artest grabbed a woman and pushed her down, then slapped her face during an argument. The report, which did not identify the victim because it was a domestic violence incident, said Artest took a phone from the woman the first time she tried to call 911.

Out for the season. Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut and forward Charlie Villanueva will miss the rest of the season because of injuries.

Bogut missed a game for the first time in his career last night against the Clippers because of a sprained left foot.

The second-year center was hurt against the Lakers on March 7. He re-injured his foot in practice on Tuesday.

Bogut will not need surgery and should be able to start performing "basketball activity" in six to eight weeks, Bucks GM Larry Harris said.

Bogut, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 draft, averaged 12.3 points and 8.8 boards this season.

Villanueva, also a second-year player, has developed recurrent right shoulder pain that will require arthroscopic surgery.
