Bottom-feeding Miami eats up Wizards
LeBron James scored 30 points, Dwyane Wade added 26 and the Miami Heat pulled away steadily to beat Washington, 105-94, on Monday night, keeping the cellar-dwelling Wizards winless away from home this season.
Chris Bosh finished with 20 for the Heat, who won for just the second time in their last six games. The Wizards were missing No. 1 draft pick John Wall, out with a bruised knee.
Elsewhere: Russell Westbrook scored 12 of his 25 points during a decisive 14-0 run late in the fourth quarter as the Oklahoma City Thunder rallied to beat the visiting New Orleans Hornets, 95-89. . . . Dirk Nowitzki had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and the Mavericks stretched their winning streak to six games with a 101-91 victory over Houston in Dallas.
Heat's Bumpgate simmers on
Amid speculation their relationship is frosty, James and coach Erik Spoelstra met for about 30 minutes before Miami hosted the Wizards. James and Spoelstra collided during a time-out Saturday when Miami lost at Dallas. Afterward, the Heat held a players-only meeting for 40 minutes. ESPN.com reported that Spoelstra told the Heat forward during a recent practice that he needed to be more serious.
Shaq avoids a spanking
Celtics coach Doc Rivers said center Shaquille O'Neal missed Boston's practice on Monday because the veteran center forgot the time it was scheduled to start.
"He owes us one. We're good," Rivers said. "I was going to spank him," Rivers joked when asked if he would punish the usually dependable 7-foot-1, 325-pounder.
Quotable
Tracy McGrady, on the similarly styled LeBron James and Dwyane Wade:
"When they're on the court together, they're terrible. They're rhythm players that need the ball. I'm like that. I can't stand out there and catch and shoot."
