'Three Amigos' rest in Heat win
With Miami's three stars sitting, it was up to the Heat's second time to get things done. They did. Eddie House scored a career-high 35 points, and Juwan Howard added 18 as Miami beat the Raptors in Toronto, 97-79, Wednesday night in the regular-season finale.
With the Heat assured of the second seed in the East, Miami coach Erik Spoelstra rested LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. James Jones scored 12 points and Jamaal Magloire had a season-high 19 rebounds for the Heat, who have won four straight and 15 of 18 heading into the playoffs.
Elsewhere: Brandon Jennings scored 16 points as the visiting Milwaukee Bucks sent Michael Redd into free agency with an overtime victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, 110-106. . . . Ramon Sessions scored 27 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers closed out one of the worst seasons in franchise history by beating the visiting Washington Wizards, 100-93.
LeBron has NBA's top-selling jersey
If LeBron James' move to Miami made him a villain to some, fans like dressing as a bad guy. James had the top-selling jersey in the NBA this season, moving past the Lakers' Kobe Bryant to claim the No. 1 spot for the first time since his rookie season in Cleveland in 2004.
Bryant dropped to No. 2 on the list announced Wednesday, while Rajon Rondo moved up to No. 3, one of five Boston Celtics among the top 15. The list is based on sales on NBAStore.com since the start of the 2010-11 season. Amar'e Stoudemire of the New York Knicks (No. 4) and the Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose round out the top five.
James' popularity was expected to suffer after his much-criticized departure from the Cavaliers last summer. His switch of teams and numbers, from No. 23 to 6, ended the reign of Bryant, who had been No. 1 since the start of the 2008-09 season.
Valet sues LeBron's mother
A valet at Miami Beach's Fontainebleau hotel has filed a lawsuit against the mother of basketball star LeBron James, seeking financial damages less than a week after claiming she verbally abused and assaulted him while he was working.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday, alleges that valet Rock Feller Sorel suffered, among other things, "emotional distress, humiliation, mental anguish [and] loss of capacity for enjoyment of life" after allegedly being struck by Gloria James in the early-morning hours of last Thursday. Sorel, who told police that James became upset because it was taking too long to deliver her car and struck him, is seeking more than $15,000 in damages.
Gloria James is not expected to face arraignment on charges of simple battery and disorderly intoxication for about another month.
"We do not comment on pending legal matters and therefore will not have any comment regarding the civil lawsuit," said Christopher Lyons, Gloria James' lawyer. - Associated Press
