Deal to sell Sixers is in holding pattern

It's unlikely that this week will bring any finalization of Comcast-Spectacor's expected sale of the 76ers, multiple sources have confirmed.

It's unlikely that this week will bring any finalization of Comcast-Spectacor's expected sale of the 76ers, multiple sources have confirmed.

On Tuesday of last week, ESPN.com broke news that Comcast-Spectacor was in serious discussions to sell the team to a group of investors led by New York billionaire Joshua Harris.

The only debatable aspect of the deal has been the time frame for completion.

Comcast-Spectacor chairman Ed Snider is expected to sell 90 percent of the Sixers to Harris' group for an estimated $280 million.

The deal, which has plenty of obstacles because of the magnitude of assets changing hands, likely won't see completion this week, sources said.

The deal is still expected to be completed in the near future.

Qualifying offers. The Sixers are expected to tender qualifying offers to forward Thaddeus Young and center Spencer Hawes by the middle of this week.

The team is allowed to tender the offers at any time, but will likely get it done in the next two days.

Both Young and Hawes will become restricted free agents on July 1. Although the process will likely be delayed because of the impending lockout, tendering a qualifying offer means the Sixers will have seven days to match if another team signs either player to an offer sheet during the free-agency period.

If a player does not sign an offer sheet during free agency, he plays for the qualifying offer during the 2011-12 season, after which he will become an unrestricted free agent.

Young's qualifying offer is approximately $3.99 million; Hawes' offer is approximately $4.05 million.

Draft workouts. Because members of the Sixers front office traveled to Treviso, Italy, for the Adidas Eurocamp, the team has not held any predraft workouts since last week.

The Sixers held a double workout, featuring 11 prospects, on Wednesday of last week.

The NBA draft is scheduled for June 23. The Sixers hold the No. 16 and No. 50 picks.
