Sixers Notes: Sixers' Jrue Holiday out with sprained left foot

INDIANAPOLIS - Already without the services of unknown commodity Andrew Bynum, the 76ers were forced to play Friday night's game against the Indiana Pacers minus the services of their best-known commodity, point guard Jrue Holiday.

Holiday was forced out of the game due to a sprained left foot he suffered during the Sixers' 96-89 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.

With Holiday listed as day-to-day and wearing a walking boot to protect his foot, Sixers coach Doug Collins sounded very guarded.

"I'm hoping that it's not going to be anything long-term," Collins said. "Jrue is too valuable to us. I'm not going to get him out there, and he's not 100 percent. What usually happens is a guy gets out there and he's not 100 percent, and he usually gets out there and starts running differently. All of a sudden he's got back spasms, rolls an ankle, something like that. We're going to be very cautious with him."

The Sixers' next game is Sunday against the soap opera that is the struggling Los Angeles Lakers. With Holiday out of the lineup, Collins switched small forward Evan Turner to the point against Indiana. He also inserted both Nick Young and Kwame Brown into the starting lineup against the Pacers.

Holiday is having a breakout year.

In his fourth season, Holiday leads the team in scoring (18.4) and is third in the league in assists (8.9). Holiday is fourth in the league in turnovers (3.8).

Holiday said that he was not sure when he sustained the injury against the Bulls. In fact, he said that he didn't realize that something was really wrong with the foot until he tried to put it down on the floor after waking up Thursday morning.

"I felt it a little going home, but not really," said Holiday, who finished with 26 points, 9 assists, and 5 turnovers against the Bulls. "I think the adrenaline was still going. But when I woke up the next morning and hit the floor, I felt it."

Holiday said that he is waiting for team trainer Kevin Johnson to tell him when he can return.

Turner, who is also having a good season, has adjusted this season to Collins' edict that the ball be in Holiday's hands more than in the past. However, Turner prefers to play on the ball and seemed eager for the opportunity.

"It should be cool," Turner said. "I just want to focus on trying to get the win and helping my teammates get to their spots, that's all."
