Iverson's tribute to Jasner
Allen Iverson remembers longtime Sixers beat writer Phil Jasner as he retires from basketball.
AT HIS retirement announcement, Allen Iverson had a long list of people he wanted to mention who were important in his NBA journey. Family, friends, coaches, teammates and foes all were praised by the former Sixers All-Star.
And then he made mention of just one media member: Basketball Hall of Famer and former Sixers beat writer for the Daily News, Phil Jasner.
"[I wish] Phil Jasner was here today," said Iverson, "especially on a day like this. Rest in peace. I know he's looking down on this whole event and thinking about the times that we laughed with each other and thinking about the times that we fought with each other. He was very inspirational in my career and he meant a lot to me."
Join the club, Allen Iverson.
