Wiggins' visit to Sixers is cloaked in secrecy

One thing is certain: The 76ers are entertaining the player they're targeting in the NBA draft for a couple of days.

But no one outside of the parties involved really knows how Andrew Wiggins' visit to Philadelphia is coming along.

The 6-foot-8 swingman, who left Kansas after his freshman season, was not available to the reporters who gathered Monday outside the Sixers' practice facility at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Campus security asked the news media and fans to leave at the team's request. A Philadelphia police officer was summoned later because the media stood on the sidewalk instead of across the street from the facility.

The only glimpse of Wiggins was when he exited the back of the building at 12:51 p.m.

He got into a black Chevrolet Suburban with Sixers center Nerlens Noel and front office employee Brandon D. Williams.

Wiggins was spotted Monday night at a Rittenhouse Square restaurant with Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie.

A source confirmed a Yahoo Sports report that Wiggins took a tour of the city. He is scheduled to work out for the Sixers on Tuesday. Wiggins, 19, is scheduled to meet with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday and the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday.

His visit with the Sixers was similar to a recruiting trip.

It's no secret that the Sixers want to select Wiggins in the draft on June 26. The only problem is he could be off the board when they make a selection.

The Sixers have the third and 10th overall picks in addition to five second-round selections. Wiggins is expected to go first or second but could fall to the Sixers at No. 3.

As a result, the franchise needs to move up just to secure drafting him. The Cavaliers hold the top spot in the draft and the Bucks are second.

Sources have confirmed a report that the Sixers have inquired about trading for the Cavs' first pick. The Sixers reportedly aren't willing to give up their third and 10th picks in exchange for the No. 1 selection. They will, however, possibly give up a combination of the No. 3 pick and power forward Thaddeus Young, according to ESPN.com.

Wiggins is an explosive leaper and a lockdown defender with a 7-foot wingspan. He was the Big 12 freshman of the year and a first-team all-conference selection.

Wiggins averaged 17.1 points and 5.9 rebounds this season.

According to sources, the Sixers are trying to do whatever they can to draft him. And there's a sense that he wants to become a Sixer.

His father, Mitchell Wiggins, played for the Sixers during the 1991-92 season, averaging 4.3 points in the final season of his six-year career.
