Indiana's Vonleh a backup plan for Sixers?

It's no secret that former Kansas swingman Andrew Wiggins is being targeted by the team with the third overall pick in next Thursday's NBA draft.

But there's no guarantee Wiggins will be available unless the Sixers trade up with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the top spot. That reality, combined with doing their due diligence, could be among the reasons the Sixers are reportedly bringing Vonleh in for a workout on Thursday.

The Sixers also have the 10th pick and five second-round selections, but it's unlikely that Vonleh will be available at 10. If they don't pick Vonleh at 3, they could try to move up from 10 to get him. If Wiggins is gone when the Sixers pick at 3, they could opt to trade down a couple of spots from 3 to get Vonleh.

The Utah Jazz at No. 5 could become a solid trade partner for the Sixers if Kansas center Joel Embiid and Wiggins are taken first and second in the draft. The Jazz are interested in former Duke swingman Jabari Parker and are reportedly looking into trading into the top three to get him.

Franchises are raving over Vonleh's upside. At 18 years old, he's one of the youngest players in the draft class, having left Indiana after his freshman season.

The 6-foot-9, 247-pounder runs well, has a solid perimeter game, and can post up and score with his back to the basket. He is drawing comparisons to Miami Heat center Chris Bosh and Portland Trail Blazers power forward LaMarcus Aldridge for his ability to step out and shoot three-pointers.

He averaged 11.3 points and nine rebounds while being mostly double- and triple-teamed last season.

"Defensively, I got a 7-foot-4 wingspan," Vonleh told reporters in Salt Lake City during Monday's workout for the Utah Jazz. "So that gives guys trouble with my length, having big hands [113/4 inches], being able to steal the ball and block shots every now and again, also."

Tour hits Cleveland. Wiggins was expected to meet with and work out for the Cavaliers on Wednesday, a source confirmed, and then with the Bucks later this week. Parker is expected to work out for the Cavs on Friday.
