Larry Brown now says Sixers are on the right track

SMU coach Larry Brown says he has made amends with one of his former teams, the 76ers. In October, when asked about the Sixers rebuilding effort (commonly referred to tanking), Brown said, "I hate what is going on in Philly. They don't have a basketball person in the organization. It makes me sick to my stomach."

Brown was back in town for Wednesday's game at Temple. He said Tuesday he has cleared things up with the Sixers and and then took his Mustangs team to Tuesday's game at the Wells Fargo Center against the Atlanta Hawks.

Still, there are things he disagrees with.

"I don't get analytics, I never will," he said. The Sixers are heavily involved in using analytics. "I have been doing analytics since I was 12 years old, try to get fouled, try to get great shots and try to limit people from getting good shots. I don't buy this mid-range jump shot is not a good shot."

He understands why analytics have become a big part of the game.

"New owners made their money on information so you can sound awful smart throwing a lot of information at people," he said. "But inside, you know who can play and who can't."

Then he turned complimentary when discussing the Sixers.

"They got the best player in the draft coming," he said about center Joel Embiid, who has yet to play and may not all season due to injury. "He can change things in a second, and I am sure he will."

Brown is a big fan of Sixers coach Brett Brown.

"He's a great young coach," Larry Brown said.

Brown wouldn't critique how the Sixers play, instead turning his attention to the future.

"The bottom line is they've got a lot of young player and the best young kid [Embiid] sitting out who is going to be phenomenal, and I want to see them win," Brown said.
