A NEWLY created Twitter account, @samhinkie, says the former president and general manager of the 76ers has taken a teaching job at Stanford University and moved his family to Palo Alto, Calif. Reached Wednesday afternoon via text, Hinkie verified the account, whose avatar appears to be a portrait of Hinkie. The account posted 10 tweets early Wednesday afternoon and talked of a desire to backpack around the world and snowboarding.

"While I wait to see what's next for us, I'll teach a little (at Stanford), keep talking to the long list of people I can learn from, watch tons of basketball, and soak up all that I can. Oh, and snowboard. For sure snowboard."

The account picked up over 11,000 followers as of Wednesday evening.

Hinkie resigned from the Sixers in early April after the club was ready to diminish his status. They had already brought on Jerry Colangelo as an adviser and soon hired his son, Bryan, as the president of basketball operations.

Under Hinkie's leadership, the team posted a 47-199 record, but secured many draft picks and trades through the losing to make them what appears to be a viable Eastern Conference competitor in the coming years. This season, they will put on the floor Joel Embiid, obtained with the third pick in 2014; Jahlil Okafor, last year's No. 3 pick; and Ben Simmons, the top pick in this year's draft. Also, Dario Saric, acquired in a draft-night trade in 2014, will join the team after playing professionally in Turkey for two years. Thanks to Hinkie, the team is also in excellent position for the 2017 draft, with a chance to swap picks with the Sacramento Kings and owning the rights to the Los Angeles Lakers' pick, which is top-three protected.

"I've always been focused on learning as fast as I can and figuring out how I can do things better," Hinkie tweeted. "So a period like this felt super rare. And there may be no better place on the planet to learn now than right here."
