Sixers' Jahlil Okafor involved in Boston street fight

HERE'S A QUESTION to ponder while you digest your Thanksgiving turkey: Who would you rather not be, Chip Kelly or Brett Brown?

Kelly's team fell to 4-7 and gave up 45 points for the second time this week in Thursday's loss in Detroit. But that might not even compare to what Brown has been going through with the Sixers, who blew their third straight winnable game on Wednesday in Boston to fall to 0-16 and tie the NBA record for consecutive defeats with 26 going back to last season.

And things actually got worse after that.

TMZ Sports released a video Thursday of an altercation apparently involving star rookie Jahlil Okafor outside a Boston nightclub. In the video, Okafor appears to have words with a group of people, then breaking away from someone trying to restrain him, shoving a person to the ground and then appearing to connect on a punch to another person. After that happens, someone tries to jump on Okafor from behind and throw a punch, before the video ends.

TMZ reported that the altercation began when someone in a group yelled at Okafor, "The 76ers suck," and Okafor yelled back, "We got money, you broke ass (N-word)." TMZ said an Okafor representative said Okafor was being heckled as he left the club, felt threatened by being swarmed on the street, and took action after someone got physical with an unnamed teammate. They left after the incident and there was no police involvement.

The Sixers issued the following statement: "We are aware of the report and we are currently working to gather additional information. Until that time, we will have no further comment."

In years past, the Sixers would have left Boston immediately after the game to fly to Houston for Friday's game. The thinking was to get the team to the next city in the early hours of the morning, with sleep the only activity on anyone's mind.

The organization these days prefers to have the team stay in a city after a game if there is no game the next day. The idea is that the players can get to bed earlier, get a workout in the morning, then board a flight to the next city in the afternoon.

In this case, that plan backfired.

Stay tuned.
