Young signs with Sixers

Thaddeus Young is returning to the Sixers. President Rod Thorn told the Daily News that a deal has been reached and that the hope is that Young would be in town tomorrow and be able to practice with the team, which will be on the floor at 3 p.m.

Young tweeted "Thanks to each and every one of my fans, family, friends, teammates and coaches who have been there (every) step of the way. I appreciate you guys."

In a statement announcing the deal, Thorn said,""We are very happy to have reached a tentative agreement with Thaddeus, who we consider to be an integral part of our long-term plans. Thad has thrived in his role under Coach Collins and we are happy to have him back with the Sixers."

Coach Doug Collins has said repeatedly how much he wanted Young back with the team. Young averaged 12.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and shot 54 percent from the floor coming off the bench for Collins last season. It is probably the role he will stay in this year.

Young also finished third in voting for the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award last season and had the highest point/rebound/assist total of any reserve. The Sixers were 12-3 when he scored 20-plus points in 2010-11.

Added Sixers CEO Adam Aron on Twitter, "As you requested Twitter-land, Rod Thorn just re-signed Thad Young for @Sixers for five years. We are elated, as we know you will be."

The deal is reported to be for $42 million for 5 years. Thorn had said earlier in the day that the team is also talking to Spencer Hawes in an effort to bring him back. The team presented Hawes a qualifying offer last year of just over $4 million.
