Legendary 76er Julius Erving fell ill while at the Wells Fargo Center Friday night and was taken to a local hospital.

"He is currently being evaluated. He is expected to be released after the evaluation," a statement from Erving's management and the Sixers read.

Erving, 67, who was in attendance as the ceremonial bell-ringer to open the game against the Detroit Pistons, is the Sixers' fourth-all time leading scorer and the NBA's seventh all-time leading scorer with 30,026 points.

He won the NBA's most valuable player award in 1981 as a member of the Sixers and led the team to a championship in 1983.

Erving held career averages of 24 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists through a 16 year career in the ABA and NBA.
