Panama shocks U.S. in Gold Cup

TAMPA, Fla. - Luis Tejada scored in the 19th minute and Gabriel Gomez converted a penalty kick later in the first half as Panama stunned the United States, 2-1, on Saturday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Clarence Goodson scored in the 68th minute, but Chris Wondolowski missed a wide-open net in the 80th minute to equalize and Panama held on.

The loss was just the second for the Americans in their past 21 Gold Cup games. They had never lost to Panama.

Despite the loss, the U.S. can advance by beating Guadeloupe in its final Group C match Tuesday in Kansas City.

Canada beats Guadeloupe. Dwayne De Rosario scored on a penalty kick in the 51st minute to lead Canada past Guadeloupe, 1-0, in Group C play in Tampa, Fla.
