JUST A WEEK after looking like it might fall out of the playoff race, the Union is back in first place in MLS' Eastern Conference following Saturday night's 2-0 victory in Seattle.
Freddy Adu and Brian Carroll scored the goals that put the Union (11-7-14, 47 points) two points ahead of Kansas City with each team having two games to play.
"It's huge for us to get the win here," said Sebastien Le Toux.
Adu's game-winner in the game's 60th minute was set up by a cross from Gabriel Farfan, who barely kept the ball from going over the endline.
"That goal was all Gabe," Adu said. "Lo and behold, the ball popped up exactly where I was and, at that point, I just have to concentrate on finishing it."
Carroll's goal came 10 minutes later, on a pass from LeToux, who, since the departure of Carlos Ruiz, has regained the scoring and passing touch he showed as an MLS all-star last season.
The Union hosts Toronto FC at PPL Park on Saturday (4 p.m.) before finishing the regular season at Red Bull New York on Oct. 20.
