The Union will be searching for a new assistant coach after they announced Wednesday that Brendan Burke has decided to pursue other coaching opportunities.
Burke has worked on the Union's technical staff since 2011. He also served as head coach of the reserve team.
"I want to thank the ownership, staff, and team for making my time with the club so special," Burke said in comments released by the team. "It's been a privilege to work with the caliber of players here at the Union, but I also feel it is time to go in a different direction in my career."
In addition to serving as a Union assistant, Burke also was the coach of Reading United, the Union's Premier Development League affiliate.
Burke coached at Reading United from 2008 through the last season. He announced in December that he wasn't returning to Reading United, where he won 71 games.
The Union began training for their fifth Major League Soccer season on Monday and open the regular season March 8 at Portland, with their first home game March 15 against the New England Revolution.
