Union's Pfeffer given additional game suspension

A red card draws an automatic one-game suspension, but the MLS Disciplinary Committee can add additional punishment, which it did with Wednesday's ruling.

Pfeffer, who was making his first start of the season, will miss Sunday's game against the host Chicago Fire and the following Sunday's game at Sporting Kansas City.

Union manager Jim Curtin wasn't optimistic that defender Sheanon Williams, who injured his hamstring in Saturday's game, will be ready this weekend. The Union will also be missing midfielder Cristin Maidana (knee), forward Conor Casey (sports hernia) and forward C.J. Sapong (facial fracture).

Backup keeper Andre Blake, who had been out following knee surgery (a partial menisectomy) on Feb. 23, returned to practice this week.
