Curtin won't say whether Rosenberry will play for the Union on Saturday

The 2016 all-star was benched last week as the Union fell to 0-4-3.

Coach Jim Curtin has tried virtually everything to snap the Union out of a winless streak that has reached 14 games dating back to last year, including benching an all-star from 2016.

That was defender Keegan Rosenberry, who didn't play for the first time in his two-year career Saturday in a 3-3 draw with the Montreal Impact.

Rosenberry was an all-star as a rookie last season out of Georgetown and played every minute of the regular season.

"He been caught between two minds in terms of attack and defending and maybe lacking a little bit of confidence. But he is still giving max effort," Curtin said Tuesday. "It can also light a little bit of a fire and give you a little bit of a break. But at the same time, if we are going to get out to this thing, he is going to be a big part of us fighting our way out of it."

Curtin wouldn't say whether Rosenberry would play Saturday night when the Union (0-4-3) visit the Los Angeles Galaxy (2-5).

Veteran Ray Gaddis started in his place at right back against Montreal. When asked whether Gaddis could move to left back and start with Rosenberry, Curtin suggested that the idea was not being considered. Fabinho has played every minute this season at left back.

The Union are coming off a game in which they squandered a 3-0 lead. The Galaxy lost, 3-0, at home on Saturday to defending MLS champion Seattle.

Curtin summed up in one sentence how frustrating things have been this season. "This is the most challenging stretch I ever had in 17 years of professional soccer," he said.
