KEON DANIEL'S tenure with the Union officially ended yesterday, as the club announced it released the midfielder early in his fourth season in Philadelphia.

Since joining the Union in March 2011, Daniel made 64 appearances, including 46 starts, but had yet to play this season.

Officially, Daniel's departure came via "a contract termination by mutual consent," according to a statement released by the club. With the Union, the 27-year-old from Trinidad and Tobago scored two goals and recorded four assists while logging 4,126 minutes.

"We think this move is the best decision for both Keon's career and our club," Union manager John Hackworth said in the release. "We wish him luck and thank him for his contributions to the Union."

Daniel registered one goal and two assists in 888 minutes during the 2011 season, but merely matched those statistics the following two seasons combined, while logging 1,517 minutes in 2012 and 1,721 last season. After making 20 starts in 2013, Daniel started this year buried on the depth chart, following the offseason acquisitions of midfielders Maurice Edu, Cristian Maidana and Vincent Nogueira.

Daniel has international experience, scoring nine goals in 51 caps with Trinidad and Tobago's national team. His most recent appearance with the Soca Warriors came in last summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The Union (1-1-3) is back in action Saturday when it hosts Real Salt Lake (2-0-3) at 4 p.m. at PPL Park.
