About the Talons: This team has been in disarray since the league had to take control over the winter when the previous ownership group was beset by financial problems . . . San Antonio has lost four in a row and has the worst record in the AFL . . . Started the season with Mitch Mustain at QB before turning to Shane Boyd. Mustain was Matt Barkley's backup at USC in 2010.
About the Soul: Coming off a 52-50 loss to rival Cleveland in which they blew a 17-point lead in the final minute. The defense gave up three late touchdowns and the special teams failed to recover two onsides kicks. As odd as it seems, squandering such a lead does happen occasionally in the AFL's short field . . . Leading WR Ryan McDaniel is questionable with a calf injury and could miss his second consecutive game. Markee White, acquired a few weeks ago in a trade with Los Angeles, is expected to make his Philadelphia debut. The 6-7 receiver had 53 catches and five TDs in eight games with the KiSS.
Trade winds: The Soul yesterday acquired OL Duke Robinson and WR Brandon Thompkins from Spokane for defensive back Fred Shaw. The secondary has been a disappointment for the Soul, so look for the team to make further moves before Monday's trade deadline . . . Neither Robinson nor Thompkins is expected to be available Sunday.
Poll position: The Soul is seventh in the weekly coaches poll. Arizona, Cleveland and San Jose still hold the top three spots, respectively.
Playoff position: The loss to Cleveland (9-0) virtually ends any hopes the Soul might have had for a division title, though the Soul holds the race for the second wild card on a tiebreaker.
Up next: The Soul visits Tampa Bay (4-6), one of the teams on the Soul's heels for that final playoff spot. Philadelphia and Tampa split their two meetings this year, with the home team winning each.
