Images: Documentary about Sara Spencer Washington

Sara Spencer Washington, or Madam as she was known in the Atlantic City of the 1920s, '30s and '40s, was a singular pioneer, entrepreneur and early civil rights icon. Her grandson, Royston Scott, has made a documentary about her that premieres Saturday at Rutgers' New Jersey Film Festival and will begin its festival rounds, including the Hollywood Black Filmmaker Festival and another one this spring in California.
