An annual holiday treat - Disney on Ice - returns today to the Wachovia Center offering a combination of classic and new characters to entertain families.
In town through Jan. 4, "Worlds of Fantasy" showcases classic characters from
Cars,
The Lion King
and
The Little Mermaid
, and introduces the new fairies from this year's
Tinker Bell.
Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck also will greet the audience with song and dance.
" 'Worlds of Fantasy' connects classic and new Disney stories," producer Kenneth Feld says. "Audiences will be blown away in Radiator Springs when they encounter the unforgettable crew of animated cars, this time built to scale and live on ice. They will see their all-time favorites -
The Little Mermaid
and
The Lion King
- and discover up-close the secret world of Pixie Hollow."
Skater Bryan Scurto plays seven parts in the production. He says each story allows him to deliver something new. "In
The Lion King
story I get to show off my wild side," he said. "And
The Little Mermaid
has such upbeat moves to it. I think it is very fun for the audience to see all the choreography."
If the show's two hours of action on ice is not enough, the production offers the Disney Princess Pre-Show. Featuring an exclusive collection of ballgowns and mementos from the Disney Princess stories, the exhibit will present picture opportunities and a chance to meet a Disney princess.
