A meaty Super Bowl matchup: Philly and Kansas City mayors place cheesesteaks-for-barbecue bet
Philly Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas have also agreed to donate food to local hospitals to honor the frontline workers who will be working during the big game.

The Eagles-Chiefs Super Bowl is not only a matchup of two of the great teams of the era, but also a showdown between two cities with iconic beef-based local cuisine.
Philly Mayor Cherelle L. Parker placed a wager with Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas Friday morning on the Today show: If the Birds win, Lucas sends Parker some Kansas City barbecue. If the Chiefs pull off the three-peat, Parker will send cheesesteaks to Lucas.
Separate from the bet, the mayors have also agreed to donate food to local hospitals to honor the frontline workers who will be working during the big game. Parker will be making a contribution to Temple University Hospital.

The betting bonanza extended to members of Congress from both cities. U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, the Democrat who represents Kansas City, re-upped a steaks-for-BBQ bet he made with Philly’s Rep. Dwight Evans during Super Bowl LVII two years ago and extended the wager this year to include fellow Democratic Reps. Brendan Boyle of Northeast Philly and Mary Gay Scanlon of Swarthmore.
”I’m eager to get another taste of Philly’s finest #Chiefsteaks after the @Chiefs #RunItBack on Sunday,” Cleaver posted on social media. The Missouri lawmaker is partnering on the bet with Rep. Sharice Davids, a Democrat who represents the Kansas City suburbs in Kansas.
Boyle responded by saying that the Philly reps “are looking forward to enjoying some of your Kansas City barbecue after Saquon and the Eagles feast on the Chiefs.”
