House of the week: A three-bedroom in Germantown with detached garage and studio for $375,000
The style is described as a mix of southwestern and mid-century modern.

“I felt like we had found a time capsule,” said Eric Ashleigh.
The three-bedroom, 1½-bathroom house in historic Germantown had been unoccupied for years, tied down by a complicated series of liens and bills. But when Ashleigh and his partner, April Rosentreter, finally closed around the holidays in 2021, they looked at it as a “wonderful way to ring in a new year. ”
Now they have bought an old farm in Minnesota, not far from April’s family farm. “We didn’t intend to sell so quickly,” Ashleigh said.
In their short stay in Germantown, they said they found the house perfectly suited to both their talents.
Ashleigh is a designer and builder and did many of the interior renovations himself. Rosentreter is a human resources executive in a tech company and a skilled decorator.
Ashleigh describes the style of the house, built in the late 19th century, as “southwestern meets mid-century modern” because of eclectic touches the couple added from their travels around the world.
The property has two buildings: the main house and a garage/studio building, about 1,775 total square feet. Entry to the main house is through a perennial garden.
The rear dining room has a table built by Ashleigh from original joists in the home and accordion doors leading to the private courtyard.
The kitchen has concrete floors, Samsung appliances, and Italian marble countertops and backsplash, and floating shelves.
The bedrooms are upstairs, and the primary bathroom has a floating concrete sink and a seamless open shower.
What had been the middle bedroom was converted to a large walk-in closet and laundry room.
The garage/studio building has salvaged barn wood floors and a roof deck.
There is a new roof on the main building, central air, a full-house water filter, and a tankless on-demand water heater.
The house is listed by Lara Ertwine of Serhant Pennsylvania for $375,000.
