House of the week: A mid-century modern home in Wyncote for $799,900
The four-bedroom house was designed by prominent architect William Wallace Eshbach.

“I’ve always been an architecture lover, and I’ve always loved the mid-century modern aesthetic,” said Sylvia Rodriguez-Toymil, an interior designer. And her husband, Norberto Quinones, is “a nature guy,” she says.
So when they found their four-bedroom, three-bathroom home in Wyncote in 2007, they immediately knew it would meet both their needs.
It was accessible to Quinones’ job in financial services in the pharmaceutical industry and still, “during the winter you’d think you we’re up in the mountains,” Rodriguez-Toymil said.
Plus they saw it as a great place to raise a family. They moved in the week their son turned 1.
But the couple are moving to Georgia, where Quinones has a new job, and their son is off to college.
The house, designed by architect William Wallace Eshbach, was built in 1953 and is known in architectural circles as “the Rossman residence,” as it was commissioned by endodontics pioneer Dr. Samuel Rossman.
Rodriguez-Toymil says all the houses on the block are mid-century modern, although the others were designed by different architects.
The house is on a half-acre lot, with outdoor amenities including a firepit, hammock, and gardening and composting areas, as well as two tiled patios, several storage sheds, a carport, and a four-car driveway. The 2,669-square-foot house is on a cul-de-sac.
The home’s living space has multiple walls of windows. The living room has a wood-burning fireplace, and the kitchen has butcher-block countertops and indirect lightning, a six-burner induction cooktop, range hood, Samsung refrigerator, and pantry.
The three bathrooms have the preserved original tile, sinks, and faucets.
The house has a rubber roof, 200 amp electric with generator hookups, and its original windows were replaced by double pane windows.
The entryway has slate flooring, and there are exposed tongue-and-groove ceilings and beams. The home has its original doors, doorknobs, and light fixtures.
The house is in the Cheltenham School District, and a short walk to the Jenkintown-Wyncote SEPTA Regional Rail station.
It is listed by Tim Owen of Compass Realty for $799,900.
