House of the week: Former tailor shop and gas station now a home in Queen Village for $649,000
The two-bedroom home has its original cornice and floor-to-ceiling windows on the first level.

“I don’t like conventional residences,” Stan Kahl said. “I like funky, unique homes.”
He and his wife, Samantha, also have two sons to educate. So when they found an unusual Queen Village corner property in the attendance area of the Nebinger K-8 school, they were sold.
Stan, an American Airlines pilot, bought the house in 2022 while Samantha, who is in real estate marketing, was living in her native Nova Scotia. He was in the Navy on a special assignment there.
The following year, they were married and living in the two-bedroom, two bathroom, three-story house, which previously had been a gas station and then a tailor shop.
But now, with the boys growing up, the Kahls are looking for a larger home between the Main Line and Chester County with a good high school.
With both south- and east-facing floor-to-ceiling windows with window seats, the 1,749-square-foot house gets abundant natural light.
The lower level has a living room with wood-burning fireplace, an eat-in kitchen, pantry, and laundry room.
The second floor has a bedroom with two closets and a bathroom with a tub.
The third level has the primary bedroom with a skylight, a sliding barn door, two closets, and windows on two sides. The en suite bathroom has a dual-sink vanity and walk-in shower with a rolling glass door and shower bench.
Outside is the original cornice, a permanent patio table, and a trash storage bin.
The home is close to the Delaware River waterfront and the Italian Market and has easy access to I-95 and public transit.
The house is listed by Wesley Kays-Henry of Space & Co. for $649,000.
