Sam Maiden has lived all around the country in his long career as a U.S. Department of Labor official, but he has a special fondness for the Spring Garden condo he owned for a brief time during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maiden, a Michigan native who is now retired and lives year-round in Florida, bought the unit in 2021 when his work required him to live in the Philadelphia area.

“It’s quiet and laid back, but there’s always something to do,” he said.

And he loved the history of the place, where hat magnate John B. Stetson lived briefly in the late 19th century.

The 1,123-square-foot unit, one of four when the end-of-the-row building was built, preserves many of the original architectural details.

There is a marble fireplace mantel with gas insert in the living room, 14-foot ceilings, and large windows.

The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, custom wood cabinetry, granite countertops, and parquet wood floors.

A spiral staircase leads to the upper level, which has room for both a king-size bed and a home office or lounge area.

The bedroom has a carved-wood fireplace mantel, hand-painted tile accents, and stained-glass doors.

The primary bathroom has Carrera marble flooring, a glass-enclosed jetted tub and shower, white subway tile, and a laundry closet with stackable washer and dryer.

Public transit is easily accessible, and the unit has a dedicated parking space on the premises.

The unit is listed by Travis Rodgers of BHHS Fox & Roach at the Harper, Rittenhouse Square for $426,000.
