On the market: A four-bedroom Dutch Colonial in Havertown for $639,000
The current owners loved the walkable neighborhood. They're moving to a bigger house in the same town.
Teresa Hoffman said that she and her husband, John, were attracted to their neighborhood in Havertown by the family-friendly atmosphere.
“Everybody walks everywhere,” she said, “there are block parties.”
And Teresa, a high school computer science teacher in Philadelphia, and John, a sales representative for a steel construction firm, got a bonus they had not anticipated.
Their new neighbors quickly became close friends, and the husband, Robert Fallon, was a contractor who helped the Hoffmans almost totally remodel the century-old Dutch Colonial.
“They became like cousins,” Teresa said. “It’s really hard to move.”
John said they added a third-floor bedroom and bath, gutted the kitchen, knocked out a wall, added new windows and central air, and even turned part of the garage into a virtual sports bar for watching Eagles games.
But now, with a third son, they will move to a larger home within the Haverford School District.
The house they are selling is now four bedrooms, three baths, and 2,146 square feet.
On the first floor, the family room has a wood-burning fireplace, and the dining room opens to an updated kitchen with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and bar stool seating.
A mudroom leads to the back deck, and there is a full bath.
The second floor has three bedrooms, including the primary, and a full hallway bathroom.
The third floor has been finished into a fourth bedroom with full bath.
The house has hardwood floors throughout.
The basement has a play area, a separate office, and storage space.
There is also extensive landscaping and a two-car detached garage.
The house is listed by Geiger Smith and Robin Gordon of BHHS Fox & Roach Haverford for $639,000.
