House of the week: A four-bedroom twin in Chestnut Hill for $650,000
The 1,957-square-foot house was recently renovated.
When Kelly and Chris Nigro bought the twin in the heart of Chestnut Hill at the end of 2018, they thought they would be there for many years.
It needed a good bit of work, so much so that they lived nearby in a rental apartment for four months while renovations were done.
But now Sweden has made them an offer they can’t refuse in the form of a career opportunity for Chris, who is in human resources for a pharmaceutical company. So they will head overseas with their 10-month-old son.
“We bought it as a fixer-upper. It had good bones,” said Kelly, who is in corporate finance and real estate for a hotel management company. “We just loved the main street [Germantown Avenue], the atmosphere.”
They also liked the fact that it was a reasonable commute to her job in Center City and Chris’ job in the suburbs.
So they updated the HVAC and made other renovations, anticipating permanency.
The house, believed to be about a century old, has a brick facade and well-maintained slate mansard roof. It has four bedrooms and 2½ baths and is 1,957 square feet.
There are red oak hardwood floors and recessed lighting throughout the house, and the living room has a wood-burning fireplace with the original decorative mantel and tiled hearth.
The dining room has built-in wine storage space and an open kitchen layout with plantation shutters. The kitchen has new white cabinetry with granite countertops, GE Monogram appliances, and copper finish hardware.
An adjacent mudroom/storage area has a bath with a stall shower.
The second floor has three bedrooms, one of which is being used as a home office.
The third floor has been converted to a primary bedroom suite. The primary bathroom has a double vanity with a marble countertop and walk-in shower with subway tile floor.
The basement is dry and could easily be finished
The front yard has the original wrought iron fence and mature trees. The back has new cedar fencing and terraced landscaping, and the covered back porch has a flagstone dining/seating area. There is also a storage shed.
The house is listed by Kathy Krebs of Elfant Wissahickon — Chestnut Hill for $650,000.
