The Wissahickon schist stone houses of Germantown and Mount Airy have long attracted natives of very different places, and sisters Melissa and Lindsey Dymond, who grew up near Scranton, were no exception.

So after moving to the area for career reasons and renting in Germantown, they bought this six-bedroom, 2½-half bath twin in 2009 for what Melissa, who is in the beauty industry, called its “good original details.”

“At the time, we couldn’t afford a house like this that was already renovated, so we updated and replaced everywhere we could over 12 years,” she said, making major changes to the structure, which dates to the 1920s.

But now she and Lindsey, who is in clinical research at a biopharmaceutical company, are moving with their two young children (one each) to Brewerytown in Philadelphia, to live with a third sister.

The entrance to the home is through a covered porch. The first-floor, open-plan living area has hardwood floors, a leaded glass bay window, a grand staircase, and a working gas fireplace with decorative mantel.

The kitchen and dining room have original Victorian details with built-ins, a separate pantry area, and a rear laundry area with powder room.

The second floor has three full bedrooms and a custom bathroom, with an additional room now used as a walk-in closet.

The third floor has two large, sunny bedrooms, a walk-in closet, and a custom bathroom with a stall shower, separate soaking tub, double vanity, and tile floor.

The backyard has a large deck with ample play areas for children. Melissa says the easy access to Wissahickon Park was another attraction of the home.

Total square footage is 3,100.

The house is listed by Melanie McConnell of Keller Williams Philly for $575,000.
