Karen Hamilton moved into the spacious home in West Mount Airy in 1964 with her parents and sister and over the years and decades saw it become a center for family gatherings, celebrations, and parties.

“I have so many good memories,” says Hamilton, who retired in 2012 as assistant dean of diversity and minority affairs at the University of Pennsylvania medical school. “Easter dinner, Thanksgiving, Christmas, parties in the rec room.”

It was a place where young cousins from Ohio lived for a while. “Almost a retreat,” she says.

But since her mother died in 2012 — her father had died in 1985 — she has been alone in the six-bedroom, five-bath house, and it’s time to downsize.

The house has hardwood floors in the living room, dining room, breakfast room, sunroom and second- and third-floor bedrooms.

The living room has a classically styled mantel over the fireplace, and the sunroom has built-in bookshelves.

The dining room has decorative wall molding, wide baseboard molding, and large windows letting in natural light.

The kitchen has a six-burner stove and an adjacent butler’s pantry with a sink and additional cabinets. The breakfast room has views of the garden and back yard.

The second floor has four bedrooms, two of which have en suite bathrooms. The primary bedroom has a built-in, floor-to-ceiling chest of drawers, and its bathroom has a stall shower and linen closet.

The third floor has a large bedroom and hall bath with subway tile and a wood-paneled family room/bedroom.

The finished basement has a fireplace, wet bar, entertainment area, and half-bath.

The detached two-car garage can be used as an art studio, home office, yoga area, or children’s playhouse. Landscaping includes mature trees and shrubbery in the front and back yards.

The 3,715-square-foot house is minutes away from Weavers Way Co-Op, Henry Elementary School, Fairmount Park trails, and restaurants and shopping.

It is listed by Marie Pogue of Keller Williams Main Line for $650,000.
