On the market: A two-bedroom rowhouse in Fishtown for $350,000
The area has "lots of great restaurants and bars, but it’s still quiet enough for a neighborhood feel,” the owner says.
Brendan Day wasn’t quite sure what he was getting into when he bought the two-bedroom, 1½ bath home, vintage 1875, in Fishtown.
“I knew the neighborhood really well,” said Day, who is in wine sales. “It was just the right place and the right time. There are lots of great restaurants and bars, but it’s still quiet enough for a neighborhood feel.”
But there were generations worth of paint, wallpaper and more awaiting him when he moved there in August 2020 after renting in the area.
So he knocked down a wall, stripped wallpaper, added new hardwood flooring and a first-floor powder room, and exposed brick detailing. “I wanted to expose some of the old history,” he says.
But now, Day, a native of Monmouth County, N.J., wants to return there. “I’m a beach guy,” he says. “Time to go home.”
The 1,080-square-foot Fishtown house is blocks from Frankford Avenue and has a brick front and marble front steps.
The primary living and dining space have dark hardwood flooring, large single-hung windows, and ceiling fan lighting.
The living room can accommodate a large television and couch.
The kitchen has cherry-colored wood, raised Shaker-style cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, a mosaic tile backsplash, an over-the-range microwave, and cream tile flooring.
The back door leads to a private concrete patio.
There is a large hall bathroom at the top of the stairs with a single vanity, large mirror, full-size tub and vinyl flooring.
The primary bedroom has a single closet and two single-hung windows.
The basement has a washer and dryer and storage space.
There is easy access to I-76 and I-95 and the El.
