On the market: A Philly rowhouse for $550,000
The owners had sought an older home in a diverse neighborhood close to Center City. Now they're headed to the suburbs.
The house in the Newbold neighborhood checked just about all the boxes for Elise and Bobby Doll as they looked to move from the Graduate Hospital area in 2020.
“We were looking for a diverse neighborhood to raise our kids, something closer to Center City, a place to raise a young family, accessible to the Broad Street Line,” says Elise, a midwife/nurse practitioner.
“We like older houses. They have good foundations,” she added. “We liked the open floor plan, where you can be in the kitchen and watch the baby.”
About all that was lacking was a roof deck, so she and her husband, Bobby, an executive with a cybersecurity firm, began planning for one.
But the plans have been shelved for the next owner of the South Philadelphia home. Elise, who is expecting the couple’s first child, recently switched from her job in South Jersey to one in the Pennsylvania suburbs, so the couple will be moving there.
The living room, kitchen and dining room join in the open floor plan of the first floor.
The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, and an island. There is also a laundry room, half-bath, and patio.
Three of the bedrooms, including the primary, are on the second floor.
One of the bathrooms has exposed brick and white subway tile, and the primary bathroom has a separate, glass-enclosed shower, double vanity, and backlit mirrors.
Bobby uses the fourth bedroom, on the third floor, as an office.
The finished basement is suitable for playroom or storage. Total square footage is 2,144.
There is easy access to Broad Street, various train stations, and the East Passyunk shopping corridor.
The house is listed by Caitlin Beck of Keller Williams Philly for $550,000.
