Sixers' Jimmy Butler is day-to-day with sprained right wrist

Brett Brown said he’s unaware how long Jimmy Butler will be sidelined with a sprained right wrist.

“I don’t really have any idea of what to expect with Jimmy,” the 76ers coach said about the four-time All-Star swingman around 6:20 Monday night. “I only learned this about an hour and a half ago. I think that probably after the game I can share more information.

“It isn’t something that we are or he is worried about in the sense of this is a lingering, long-term thing."

Monday night’s game against the Houston Rockets at the Wells Fargo Center marked the fifth game Butler had missed after being acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a trade on Nov. 12. It was the first one because of his wrist.

He missed two with a strained groin and two others with an upper respiratory infection.

Butler reported discomfort in his wrist Saturday after a 117-115 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. An MRI revealed that it was a mild sprain. The team said he’s day-to-day and lists him as questionable for Wednesday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.

Corey Brewer, who was in the seventh day of a 10-day contract, started in Butler’s place against the Rockets.

Butler is a four-time NBA all-defensive second-team selection. He ranked fourth in the league in steals at 2.07 per game as of Sunday. He’s also the team’s second-leading scorer with an average of 19.6 points. The Sixers were 2-2 in games without Butler before Monday.

General manager Elton Brand and Chris Heck, the team president of business operations, were among the Sixers representatives Monday morning at the 24th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at Girard College.
