Joel Embiid’s career-high 50-point performance, Seth Curry’s shooting woes, Matisse Thybulle’s stellar defense against another elite scorer | Sixers-Bulls Best/Worst awards
Embiid becomes the first Sixers to score 50 points since Allen Iverson did it back on Dec. 23, 2005. He’s also the eighth player in franchise history to score at least 50 points.
Thank goodness for Joel Embiid.
The 76ers center propelled his squad to a 112-105 victory over the Chicago Bulls one day after being an Eastern Conference NBA All-Star Game starter for the fourth consecutive season.
Here are the best and worst awards from Friday night’s game at the Wells Fargo Center:
Best performance
Embiid gets this. He finished with a career-high 50 points to go with 17 rebounds, four blocks and two steals for his 16th double-double of the season. Embiid becomes the first Sixer to score at least 50 points since Allen Iverson did it back on Dec. 23, 2005. He’s also the eighth player in franchise history to score at least 50 points.
Worst performance
Seth Curry gets this. The Sixers shooting guard started at point guard for the second straight game with Ben Simmons sidelined with an illness. The move didn’t go well for Curry. He had more turnovers (three) than made field goals (two) en route to finishing with nine points. Curry attempted 11 shot attempts, including going 1-for-5 on three-pointers.

Best defensive performance
Matisse Thybulle gets this for the third consecutive game. Thybulle was in the starting lineup for the second straight game with Simmons out. He has three blocks, one steal and made things tough for Zach LaVine. The Chicago Bulls standout scored 30 points on 9-for-28 shooting. LaVine had a tough time while Thybulle guarded him. He actually didn’t score his first points until 1 minute, 23 seconds left in the first quarter and Thybulle resting on the bench.
Worst statistic
This goes to the Sixers’ bench scoring. They were outscored, 35-16, by the Bulls bench.
Best statistic
This goes to the Bulls foul shooting. They made all 18 of their foul shots.
