Carson Wentz, Mike Trout show up to watch Sixers blow out Lakers

It was a day for the stars.

Sunday’s big-time matchup between the 76ers and LeBron James’ Lakers had all the celebrities showing up to the Wells Fargo Center.

And lucky for them, they got to watch a Sixers win — Joel Embiid had 37 points, newcomer Tobias Harris added 22, and the home team blew out the visiting Lakers, 143-120.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who spent last weekend picking up another Lombardi Trophy, was taking in the game with Sixers legend Allen Iverson.

Iverson has been in town all weekend. He attended the unveiling of a Moses Malone statue outside the Sixers’ practice facility in Camden on Friday, and he shared the story of Malone being his secret mentor to columnist Marcus Hayes.

Noted Philly sports fan Mike Trout dropped in as well. Trout will have to report to the Angels’ spring-training facility next week, so maybe he was enjoying his leisure time before the season begins.

As columnist David Murphy pointed out there was no Bryce Harper sighting in South Philly.

Trout was probably excited to see these guys at the game. Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz and receiver Alshon Jeffery sat together courtside. Wentz was sporting a Sixers sweatshirt.

Twitter users couldn’t help but joke about the recent reports implying Wentz is “selfish” and doesn’t get along with his teammates.

Wentz replied to those reports and elaborated on a tough season in a sit-down with Eagles beat writers this past week. He said his personality won’t change, and my colleague Jeff McLane argued that maybe that’s not a bad thing.

Someone else who hasn’t changed despite criticism? Tom Brady, who just won his sixth Super Bowl. And Kraft, the guy who helped Brady get there, spent a few minutes chatting with Wentz during Sunday’s game.

Once again, model Kendall Jenner was in attendance.

Jenner acknowledged her relationship with Ben Simmons while appearing on “Ellen” late last week, saying the pair have been dating “for a bit now.”

Jenner’s been spotted at a number of Sixers games this year. On Sunday, she — and everyone else in the sellout crowd of 20,683 — got to watch Simmons attempt just his second three-pointer of the season.

Maybe he worked up the confidence to take it thanks to Jenner’s presence?

It’s important to note the game overlapped with New York Fashion Week, of which Jenner is taking part. It didn’t stop her from hopping down from New York City to watch her man play.

Plus, she got to watch one of the greatest to ever play in person. Jenner was caught on television cameras watching James, and fans had a lot to say about her facial expression.

Others thought the look explained why Simmons was taking threes all of a sudden.

Ultimately, Simmons (8 points) and the Sixers won to bring their record to 36-20. For those keeping track (and yes, there are plenty of fans who do) — the Sixers are 14-2 when Jenner is in the house.

That record isn’t something to scoff at, and fans want to see her in South Philly more often.

We’ve come a long way since November, when fans were calling for her to be banned. Winning changes everything.
