Sixers’ Brett Brown decided team needed rest, not a video session after Tuesday’s blowout loss to Raptors in NBA playoffs

“It’s get to a point where you make a decision that when does somebody need to refill their cup?" Brown said. “When do they need time?”

The 76ers were on the brink of elimination.

Some would assume practicing Wednesday would be mandatory under that circumstance.

Not coach Brett Brown.

He decided the opposite would be better heading to Thursday’s Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Toronto Raptors at Wells Fargo Center. The Raptors took a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-seven series.

“It’s get to a point where you make a decision that when does somebody need to refill their cup?" Brown said. “When do they need time?”

As a result, Brown didn’t feel the need to bring them to view game film. He also pointed out that teams don’t do on-court practices at this time stage of the season.

“To bring them and go through videotape to me was not wise,” the coach said. “It was my judgement that we could better achieve what I want to achieve on my pulse of the team if they can refill their cup.

“In the light of day, I’m glad we did that.”

The Sixers also had off on Monday, the day between Game 4 and Game 5.
